Lover's Lake Park, Keelung City, Taiwan, ROC

Lover's Lake Park (情人湖公園) is located on the top of Dawulun Mountain (大武崙山) at the western part of Keelung. It is about 30 km from Taipei Station via National Highway. It is the only highland mountain lake made up by six small streams in Keelung. The 231 m (758 ft) Dawulun Mountain can be accessed via hiking from the Hai Xing trail (海興步道)near the Dawulun Beach (大武崙海灘)on the Waimushan (外木山)coast or driving to the parking lot near the park.

We drove to the parking lot after lunch at exactly 12 pm. It was a weekday. Therefore, it was easy to park our car. First, we saw a 1942 ancient locomotive on display and had no clue why it was displayed here. You can choose to use the paved trail or the steps to go up to the top near the Lover's Lake. We used the steps and climbed to the top. Be sure to use the restroom midway to the Lover’s Lake because there are no other restrooms beyond this one. It took us roughly 10 minutes to reach the lakeside and start our adventure on the 1,400 m (4,593 ft) Surrounding Lake Footpath (環湖步道). We hiked in counterclockwise, and it was an easy and comfortable walk on the footpath. There are 3 arbors, 5 rest/outlook platforms, 3 small bridges and one famous suspension bridge – Lover's Lake Suspension Bridge (情人湖吊橋) - along the footpath. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day and took lots of photos during our visit. Besides the natural scenery, there were many seasonal flowers, insects and birds when we visited in late March. We didn't go to the Observation Tower (觀景台) and Eagle Rock (老鷹岩) because we had another important appointment in the late afternoon, but we certainly will come back again in the near future.

You need to reserve at least 4 hours to visit the site which includes Lover's Lake, Observation Tower, Eagle Rock and the Dawulun Fort (大武崙砲台, the National Historic Site). You can see the amazing northeast coastline below from the Observation Tower and Eagle Rock. You need to bring a hat, sunscreen lotion and water with you. Comfortable shoes and a camera are highly recommended. You can take the bus from Keelung Railroad Station to the site, which takes roughly 30 to 40 min.
