Lovers Lake Coastal Boulevard (情人湖濱海大道 / 外木山濱海大道 also called Waimu Shan Seashore) is located in northwest Keelung City. It is the longest natural coastline in Keelung without many constructions. It is almost 4 km (3.1 mi, officially 5 km) from Waimu Shan fishing port (外木山漁港) to Da-wu-luan Fishing Port (大武崙漁港). It is 36 km (22.4 mi) via national highway if you are travelling from Taipei Station. It is within the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area (北海岸及觀音山國家風景區).
We really love this place and have already visited 3 times in 2018. It is a place where you can relax, enjoy the magnificent nature and have some fresh seafood. Normally we come in the morning and have lunch in local small restaurants in Da-wu-luan Fishing Port or Mediterranean style restaurants along the Lovers Lake Coastal Boulevard. The magnificent rocky coastal landscape on one side and the mountains on the other side is overwhelming when driving on the paved two-way boulevard. There is a fantastic separate 3m (9.8 ft) wide coastal walkway / bike path for pedestrians and bikes along the boulevard. It is the best way to discover the wonders of the seashore boulevard. Pretty soon you will find the Da-wu-luan Beach (大武崙海灘) with golden sand when you near the Da-wu-luan Fishing Port. It is the only beach and remaining sandy seashore in Keelung although the city is a seaport city. If you like scuba diving and swimming, then you can find facilities near Waimu Shan fishing port. Hai Xing Trail (海興步道) is located near the beach, and you can hike the trail to the Lover's Lake Park (情人湖公園) which I posted about last week. We continued following the road to the end and saw a seaside café that sells drinks and light refreshments at Huhai Bay (湖海灣). It is also a perfect place to take photos of those bizarre rocks.
Lovers Lake Coastal Boulevard also a popular location to photograph the sunrise while listening to the sound of waves. It is also popular for watching the black eagles hover around the area. Wear hiking shoes if you are hiking the Hai Xing Trail. Water and sunburn protection are normally required during sunny days. You should be able to rent a bike on-site in order to enjoy the entire coastline via the bike path.
