Shimen Wedding Plaza, Shimen, New Taipei City, Taiwan, ROC

Shimen Wedding Plaza (石門婚紗廣場) is located in Shimen District of New Taipei City. It was established quite late in 2008 compared to other attractions along the North Coast. It is the only man-made wedding plaza in Taiwan and is free for all visitors. Just like most of the seaside attractions in the area, it is only 38 km (23.6 mi) from Taipei Station and not very far away from the northernmost tip of Taiwan. It is also part of the North Coast & Guanyinshan National Scenic Area (北海岸及觀音山國家風景區).

Because it is located right on the coast of the Taiwan Strait (台灣海峽), the wedding plaza with the ocean in background make it a must stop when you pass by. It is not a large place, but the New Taipei City Government spent almost 8 million NT dollars to convert a local vendor spot into a place for wedding photography. It is designed to incorporate lots of Greek elements, allowing locals to take exotic photos without needing to go abroad. I stop here while passing by almost every time to enjoy the scenery, especially during the sunset. The plaza constructs on the approximately 10 m high rocky seashore make the view even gorgeous. The white Mediterranean-style structure, including a walkway and a bell tower with cyan ocean, and blue sky make the scene like the ones we saw in Santorini. Besides the set up of the site, the view from here is fantastic on both a sunny day and during the sunset. You can see two capes on both the right and left side. There is a small fishing harbor on the right side near the cape. You can watch the sunset in different viewpoints, depending on the season, and enjoy it with your loved one. The nearby geology is another highlight. You can see many weird reefs. It is a perfect foreground when taking photos.

Stopping over here during daytime or during sunset is always a pleasant visit. There are about 25 parking spaces and should be easy to find a spot during weekdays. The best way to visit here is by car because it takes about 2 hours by bus from MRT Tamsui Station. Be sure to include it if you planning a visit to the North Coast.
