Qingshan Waterfall Trail, Shimen, New Taipei City, Taiwan, ROC

Qingshan Waterfall (青山瀑布) is located in Shimen District of New Taipei City. It is 46 km (28.5 mi) from Taipei Station and situated at the north side of Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園). The waterfall is the 2nd largest waterfall in the national park. The approximately 10 to 15 m (32.8 to 49.2 ft) high Qingshan Waterfall sits at 290 m (951 ft) above sea level.

We visited Qingshan Waterfall without any planning and just searched the nearby attractions when we were in Sazhi (三芝). When we reached the site and parked our car opposite to the trail entrance. We did not know the trail just reopened 2 days ago after June heavy rain destroyed one of the three bridges on the trail. There is a small pavilion to enjoy shade under the mighty sun in front of the trail entrance. There were some local farmers selling fresh vegetables. Behind the pavilion is the start of the 13 km (8.1 mi) trail. Uphill steep stone slab steps that bring you to a much flat trail. The trail with shade and clear water on the irrigation ditch running along the trail is unusual for the city people like us. We could still see the repairing job undergoing along the trail when we visited. We saw the first bridge, which was the damaged one just restored. Starting from here is the natural pathway along the river. Some parts of the trail were very slippery and steep. Although it was not easy to walk on, the trail had a nearby stream rushing down the hill, creating many small waterfalls along the river which make it a worthwhile hike. After the 2nd steel bridge, we were not far from the destination - Qingshan Waterfall. Once we were on the observation desk, we saw the Qingshan Waterfall right in front of us. Due to the heavy rain in the past few days, it was spectacular and the water collision with the pool below was incredible.

You need to go to the nearby lower location if you would like to take photo of the whole waterfall. The whole journey to the waterfall is about 40 min one way. It is an easy trail to hike if it did not recently rain. Be sure to wear hiking shoes or sneakers. The best way to go there is by car or motorcycle because there is no public transportation.
