Qianshui Bay (淺水灣) is located at the beginning of North Coast in Sanzhi (三芝), New Taipei City. It is about 30 km (18.6 mi) by car from Taipei Station. Sanzhi is not only famous for its seashore but also as a popular destination during the cherry blossom blooming season. The rich variety of formations and landscape make Qianshui Bay a worthwhile stop on North Coast.
Driving along the Provincial Highway No.2 (台2線, aka Northern Coastal Highway), you will soon arrive at Qianshui Bay after you see a seashore on your left-hand side. The 1 km (0.6 mi) long beach on the Qianshui Bay contains both rocky and sand beaches. The sand on the beach is cream/beige color that is quite common on the beaches in North Coast. You can spend time on the boardwalk along the seashore or join the crowd strolling on the beach and chase the waves. Occasionally we can also spot lovers using it as a wedding photo setting. Here you can find plenty of natural resources and algal reef landscapes which make it a popular destination for researchers and photographers in addition to tourists. We particularly love to be here in the late afternoon and enjoy the beautiful sunset on the enormous ocean. Sometimes we just pick one of the oceanfront restaurants or cafes and enjoy the sunset with good meals. People come here to lie on the beach enjoying a lazy time or have a picturesque ride along the coastal bike path. It is a very popular destination in summer, and you can see many kids playing on the beach.
Most of the restaurants and cafes open just before noon, and it is not easy to find a good seat where you can overlook the coast. North Coast is a popular destination for people escaping the busy big city and for relieving stress for a relaxing weekend. If you are planning visit North Coast, be sure to include Qianshui Bay on your list. It has toll parking lots for cars and buses. The North Coast Shuttle Bus is a service that links MRT Tamsui Station to Keelung, and you can get off at next stop - Qianshui Bay.
