Cavtat, Croatia

This small scenery seaport village is on the Adriatic Sea coast, just 15 km south of Dubrovnik. Originally under the name of Epidauros, this old town was established by the Greeks and can be traced back to the 4th (or 6th) century BC. The current name, Cavtat, originated from the Latin “Civitas Vetus”, which is the name the Dubrovnik people called their old city. The city of Cavtat is older than Dubrovnik.

It is a short drive from Dubrovnik until we reached the beautiful 2 bays town. It is less crowded in the morning. I recommend going there first if you have only one day to visit both Dubrovnik and Cavtat. Today, Cavtat is a popular tourist destination. You can find lots hotels, apartments and rental homes. Luka seafronts are packed with shops and restaurants. You will not miss these 2 side by side bays. The southwest bay is Luka, and the other one is Uvala Tiha. Both bays are beautiful, and if you come here from Dubrovnik, then you will disembark at Luka. The colorful waterfront is peaceful and comfortable, even just walk around. If you want to take a rest, you can find a café and sit down enjoying the breeze from the sea. There are houses on the sea front with the gorgeous orange roofs that make the shore picturesque.

Don’t visit only the waterfront; Church of St Nicholas is nearby and a great old town to visit. If you are an art lover, you can visit the Vlaho Bukovac House, which was the famous Croatian painter's former home.

There is a regular bus service between Dubrovnik and Cavtat, No10, which operates hourly between the two towns. There are also hourly boat services between Dubrovnik and Cavtat old town.
