Top of the Rock Observation Deck, New York City, NY, USA

There is another great spot that you can have a fantastic view of New York City. The Top of the Rock Observation Deck is on the top of Rockefeller Center. The 70-floor high building with its 3 level of unobstructed 360º city view observation decks is amazing. The Rockefeller Center started construction about the same time as Empire State Building on May 17th, 1930 and was completed in 1939. It was the biggest private building project at that time and consisted of 14 buildings in the Art Deco style. The Radio City Music Hall is part of the complex.

It is my personal preference that I like the Top of the Rock Observation Deck over the Empire State Building Observation Deck. It is less crowded and much easier to take good photos because they allow mono-pods. The highest level gives you a glassless observation experience and better for photographing. We went there at night with nice weather, and we could see all the famous NYC landmarks from the deck. It was windy, and we brought light coats, even though it didn’t feel cold on the street. Because we were there around 10:30 pm, there were few people around, and we could enjoy stressless environment to view the beautiful city night view. My wife and I were the last to leave the observation deck just before midnight.

Unlike Empire State Building, there are lots of shops and restaurants in the same building on first floor and basement. You can also take the Rockefeller Center tour to learn more about the stories of these buildings.
