Berklee College of Music, established in 1945 as Schillinger House, was founded by Lawrence Berk, a pianist, composer, arranger and educator. The name was changed to School of Music between 1954 and 1970. Because of broadening their teaching to cover more areas of music, they changed their name again to Berklee College of Music in 1971 and use it today. They are now the largest private college of contemporary music in the world. The school was the first US school that taught Jazz. They are now offering undergraduate, Master’s, summer programs and online study.
Their campus is located in the Back Bay area of Boston. All 21 buildings are near the intersection of Boylston Street and Massachusetts Avenue. Berklee's offices for admission, scholarships, financial aid and enrollment are in the Genko Uchida Center at 921 Boylston Street. Berklee has 5 performance venues, 306 practice rooms, 61 ensemble/lab rooms and 13 fully equipped recording studios.
My son studied there for a short time, and the learning facilities are really good for those who want to acquire more knowledge and skill of what they are interested in. If you are a music lover and wish to pursue music as your career, you can consider studying at Berklee. It will make your dream come true much easier. Berklee requires all applicants for both admission and scholarship through live audition and interview process. The acceptance rate is around 30% (from Berklee website). The tuition is not cheap for a semester and there are 3 semesters per year, but they do offer scholarships.
