USS Constitution Museum, Boston, MA, USA

The USS Constitution Museum is a place to learn the background of the USS Constitution, the stories of "Old Ironsides", and the people linked to her. The museum is at the former Charlestown Navy Yard. The US Navy's USS Constitution is not so far away from the museum. You need to visit both the museum and the ship in order to understand the history of the USS Constitution in depth. These two attractions are not operated by the same organization.

The museum is a unique place providing all the information of the USS Constitution. You can learn and see the weapons, journals, documents, logbooks, old newspapers and photographs. Current exhibitions include All Hands on Deck: A Sailor's Life in 1812, Old Ironsides in War and Peace, and Old Ironsides War of 1812 Discovery Center. The museum also offers
Teacher Resources providing teachers with the online tools and supports they need to teach about USS Constitution and the War of 1812. The admission is free, but donations of $5.00 for Adults, $3.00 for Seniors, and $2.00 for Children are suggested.

Launched in 1797, the USS Constitution is a wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She is the oldest commissioned warship afloat in the world. Constitution was one of the six warships ordered to be built by President George Washington to protect US interests, and it was built at Hartt's Shipyard in Boston, Mass. The warship earned her the nickname "Old Ironsides" during the battle of 1812 when she defeated five British frigates. Since her launch in 1797, the latest and most comprehensive structural restoration started in 1992, and the twelve million dollar project was completed in 1995. In celebration her 200 years after being launched, she made her first sail with her own power in 116 years. The 215 years old warship sailed the second time after the 1995 restoration on Sunday, August 19, 2012. Perhaps the US is the only nation that can preserve a 200+ year old warship and keep it functional.

After visiting the USS Constitution Museum and USS Constitution, you can check out the neighborhood historical sites like Cassin Young and the Bunker Hill Monument.
