Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy

The first time I learned about Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) was from the 1954 movie and song, Three Coins in the Fountain. It is a love story of 3 girls from USA in Italy, and Frank Sinatra sang the title song. The movie created a legend in which when the visitors toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, they will come back and meet again Rome. It is one of the world's most famous landmarks, and the most beautiful fountain in Rome. The correct way to toss a coin into the fountain is over your shoulder with your back towards the fountain.

It is walking distance from Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps. Most of the time it is full of tourists, and it is not easy to take a good photo. You might need a wide angle lens to include the whole scene in your photo. On average, the fountain will collect €3000 a day, and the money is given to charities.

Trevi Fountain is at the end of an aqueduct project, Aqua Virgo, constructed in 19 BC to bring the water from Salone Springs to the fountains in the city center. The Baroque style Trevi fountain took 30 years to build and was completed in 1762. The 25.9-meter high and 19.8-meter wide fountain is situated on the Piazza di Trevi. There are three figures in the backdrop: the central figure is Neptune, Roman god of the sea, the left is a statue of Abundance, and on the right is Salubrity.
