La Rambla, Barcelona, Spain

La Rambla promenade starts from Christopher Columbus Monument near the port to the Plaça de Catalunya in the city center. I was told that you must go to La Rambla otherwise you could not claim you had been to Barcelona. The 1.2 Km long boardwalk is always crowded day and night.

We took the Metro Green Line L3 to Catalunya station and started our adventure. We found lots of stands selling flowers, foods, souvenirs and paintings, and many street performers. You can spend hours in what you find interesting. Along La Rambla you can see many historical buildings like Liceo Theatre (Gran Teatre del Liceu), La Boqueria market (Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria) and Palace Virreina (Palau de la Virreina). The place has more tourists than locals and it is always crowded. This is the main reason for being a popular place for pickpockets. If you can bring only necessary stuff and keep it in front of you, you should be pretty safe walking around in La Rambla.

We decided to have an early dinner in one restaurant in La Rambla. We sat in the outdoors and had our first Spanish food. We were not only enjoying the food as well as looking at all the people passing by. It was quite an experience for us because we don't have such outdoor eating in the big city we live.
