Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf, Tamsui, New Taipei City, Taiwan, ROC

Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf (淡水漁人碼頭) is located in the western tip of Tamsui District of New Taipei City. It is only 25 km (15.5 mi) from Taipei Station. It is also called "Tamsui Second Fishing Port" and was a key fishing port in the north part of Taiwan. Under the Council of Agriculture guideline to promote the diversified construction of fishing port functions, Tamsui Second Fishing Port finished construction and transformed to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf in March 2001. It preserved its fishing port function and became a popular tourist attraction in New Taiwan City.

Today, this leisure fishing port is a popular destination. You can see visitors during daytime and nighttime, especially on weekends. We went there several times and found it was one of the best modernized old fishing ports that welcomes the visitors for a pleasant visit. The parking lot is quite large and is close to the beautiful 196 m (643 ft) white Lover’s Bridge – a cable-stayed bridge (斜張橋) that spans across the port from north to south. The bridge illuminates with different colors during nighttime which makes it even more beautiful. It is still a functional fishing port that can accommodate 150 boats and yachts. The most significant feature on the wharf is the 330 m (1,083 ft) boardwalk along the seashore above the breakwater. This is a perfect location to watch the beautiful sunset. You can find a number of restaurants / coffee shops under the boardwalk and in nearby buildings. A cruise liner shaped deluxe hotel Fullon Hotel Tamsui Fishermen’s Wharf (福容大飯店), just few walks from the port, not only provides accommodations, but also food. A 100 m (328 ft) high with 360 degree rotating Lover’s Tower (淡水情人塔) provides a panoramic view of surrounding, which is an unforgettable experience.

The seafood is fresh and is the most popular fare here in the wharf. You can find both western and Chinese style food restaurants. There is a World Chocolate Wonderland next to the Starbucks if you like chocolate. Today, you can take a boat from Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf to Tamsui Ferryboat Wharf (淡水渡船碼頭) where there is another popular Tamsui tourist attraction – Tamsui Old Street. You can take the MRT from Taipei City to Tamsui Station, visit Tamsui Old Street first, and then take the boat to Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf. It is the easiest and quickest way to visit both locations.
