Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire, USA

The Kancamagus Highway is a famous route to enjoy the fall foliage in September and October at northern New Hampshire of USA. It is the eastern part of NH 112 state highway. The road was opened from the eastern in the town of Conway and ends at western side in the town of Lincoln in 1959. The Kancamagus Highway is a 26.5 mile (42.4 km) two-lane scenic drive that runs through the White Mountains National Forest. Kancamagus Highway is now designated as an American Scenic Byway for its rich history, beauty and culture.

There are numbers of scenic points of interest along the Kancamagus Scenic Byway. You can stop at the Ranger Station to get map and ask for the information about hiking, camping and advice of points of interest to stop. Here are some of the stops you might want to visit - the Albany Covered Bridge, Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, Lower Falls and Rocky Gorge. It also takes you to an elevation about 3,000 feet at its highest point at Kancamagus Pass on the flank of Mt. Kancamagus near Lincoln.

The Kancamagus Scenic Byway is a place that so beautiful and natural; you will not find restaurants, shops, gas stations and cell phone is useless here. Bring your own food and drink with you and don’t leave anything behind except your footsteps. There are some packing lots along the road and you need to pay the recreation parking pass of $3 per day at the ranger station as well as self service areas. You may find lots of places that you want to stop and you can park your vehicle off the shoulder. Never park where there is no shoulder because it is a two-lane road. Be sure to prepare before you go and allow some extra time just in case you find something interesting and not on your list.
