This open-air museum was constructed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. They tried to introduce visitors from all over the world to Spanish architecture, way of living and cultures. They really achieved their intention and are continuously doing so over the past 80 years. The site is still well maintained and used not only for tourism but also for events like concerts. There are 117 buildings that showcase a Spanish village and its cultures.
We took the “city tour bus” to go there and spent half a day touring the museum. It was not crowded, and we enjoyed a pleasant walk in this peaceful little settlement. In this condensed Spanish village, not only you can see all different styles of Spanish buildings but also buy handcrafts, have a coffee in a lovely alley and enjoy a variety of delicious local food in the restaurants. There are about 40 workshops that require strong legs to see them all. From here you can have an amazing view of the city of Barcelona.
The expensive entry fee of 9.5€ might be the only thing I would like to complain about this tourist attraction. By the way, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya – MNAC is nearby. You can plan your visit to both attractions on the same day.
